N8 PRP Launches 2024 Annual Report

By

The N8 Policing Research Partnership (N8 PRP) has released its Annual Report for 2024, highlighting achievements from the past year and plans for 2025.

N8 PRP is a collaboration between the N8 universities and 11 police forces in the North of England. Together, they work to promote, support, and enable policing research and its impact.

The Annual Report for 2024 delves into the evolving partnership between the College of Policing and N8 PRP, as marked by a transition to ‘Phase 3’ of the partnership in 2024, and introduced in the report by Academic and Policing Co-Directors, Prof Geoff Pearson of University of Manchester and Det. Supt. Ben Ewart of Greater Manchester Police.

The partnership’s successes over the past year are covered, including the outcomes of six research projects funded by the partnership’s small grants scheme, addressing issues including harassment, sex offender management, and digitally enabled coercive control.

Also highlighted are the outcomes of three significant knowledge exchange events focused on gender-based violence, women in policing, and drug checking. The growth of the New Researchers in Policing Network – which supports the development of early career researchers in both police forces and universities across the North of England – is also celebrated.

Dr Annette Bramley, Director of N8 Research Partnership said:

“I am impressed by the achievements of the N8 PRP every year, and 2024 was no exception.

“This report explores the wider context of policing research and collaboration, and the crucial role of N8 PRP in supporting evidence-based policing activity over the past year, and into 2025. Significant policy and practice changes have arisen as a direct result of N8 PRP’s research and knowledge exchange activity. I look forward to witnessing the continued impact of N8 PRP in the coming year.”
