The Take Back our Streets mission seeks to ensure that the basics of a safe, law-abiding society are delivered: crime is investigated, police are trusted, victims have faith in justice and criminals are apprehended. However, the nature of many crimes is also changing and evolving, which requires the development of new technologies, policies and approaches to support efforts to keep the public safe.

The N8 universities have long been at the forefront of supporting the development and implementation of evidence-based policing. The N8 Policing Research Partnership brings together universities and police forces from across the North of England to address law enforcement challenges including violence against women and girls, coercive control and drugs markets. And as crime increasingly evolves into digital spaces, our universities are keeping pace, ensuring that we can manage our digital security, both at a personal and at a national level.
