The requirement for the UK to transition to a future based on the production and use of clean energy is a necessity driven by the climate emergency. However, it also represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity, particularly for the North of England.

The North not only produces more than its fair share of carbon emissions, but is also uniquely placed to develop the solutions needed to transition to a cleaner future. Across the region we have expertise in wind, nuclear, clean fuels, carbon capture, usage and storage, as well as the systems needed to integrate these technologies into the power network.

This expertise, much of it grounded in our universities, is leveraged and applied to these challenges through partnerships with business and government which will transform our energy sector in the North, the rest of the UK, and globally.

The opportunity is two-fold: reducing our own carbon emissions is vital for the planet, as is exporting our know-how, technology and leadership around the Globe so that the rest of the world can follow suit.
